In-class activity: facebook character profile
When you watched and listened to the character Vokis on this site, you may have considered that these were accurate depictions of the characters we have come to know through our novel study, Or, you may have felt that the characters were different; that they look different, have different personalities or have varying opinions about other characters in the book, so here's your chance to change that!
We all interpret characters differently, just as we all interpret people differently in real life. This next activity will require you to create a pretend Facebook profile for one of the characters in The Invention of Hugo Cabret. You may choose any of the characters in the novel but remember that the profile must make sense for the character you choose i.e. you can't say that Papa Georges enjoyed surfing the Internet as a hobby! You may need to refer back to the novel to find additional character information. This activity will be done through the website tool Fakebook. We will go through how to use this website before beginning the task! The aim of this task is to show that personal interpretation shapes our understanding of texts and that in today's society, we are constantly shaping and re-shaping our identity, just as many of the characters in Hugo do in their own way. |
